On Thanksgiving Day, Scott Ellinger, owner of the Brass Rail Steakhouse, will donate and deliver more than 10,000 Thanksgiving dinners to thousands of families in need this year – with an added warm clothing donation. In addition, Ellinger, and hundreds of volunteers, will also serve more than 1,500 first responders, police officers, families in need and homeless St. Louisans on Thanksgiving, inside the restaurant.

“Last year our volunteers said they delivered to houses with no electricity and they saw children playing outside with no hats or gloves. So, this year, we decided to add warm clothing to every delivery,” Ellinger said.

Ellinger started this tradition in 2014, delivering Thanksgiving to more than 1,000 families in need, within a 60-mile radius of his restaurant. Ellinger says he increased donations by more than 4,000 meals this year to ensure anyone who needs a hot meal will receive one. Ellinger says families in need should contact the restaurant before November 22 to reserve their meal.

“There is absolutely no way we could give this gift to the community without our amazing volunteers, who give up their Thanksgiving every year to help us. Last year we had more than 700 volunteers help us deliver more than 7,000 meals and this year we’re really hoping for 1,000 volunteers to help us cover the increased need,” Ellinger added.

To prepare the nearly four tons of food he and his volunteers will distribute, Ellinger and his team will start cooking the Sunday before Thanksgiving and will work around-the-clock through Thanksgiving evening. Each family will receive a made-from-scratch meal, that includes turkey, ham, and all the trimmings, including pie and the warm clothing donation. Deliveries will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving morning. Anyone wishing to dine in the restaurant may do so from 10 a.m-5 p.m.

“We love visiting with the families who dine with us on Thanksgiving. We always send them home with an extra meal. And not one piece of pie will go wasted. The day after Thanksgiving, we will donate our leftovers and leftover clothing to our area food pantries,” added Ellinger.

No reservations are required for those in need to dine at the Brass Rail Steakhouse on Thanksgiving Day. The Brass Rail is located at 4601 State Highway K, O’Fallon, Missouri. For more information on Thanksgiving, or, to volunteer, please contact the Brass Rail Steakhouse, 636.329.1349.
