This February 9, runners in St. Louis will strip down to their skivvies and join more than 14,000 scantily clad do-gooders across the United States to raise awareness of neurofibromatosis (NF) through Cupid’s Undie Run. Recognized as the nation’s largest pantless party and mile-ish run for charity, Cupid’s Undie Run gives participants the opportunity to take off the usual weekend wear, show their support for the NF community and fundraise, with 100% of net proceeds funding research through their partner, the Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF). This year, runners dressed in an array of costumes, will show off their undies to celebrate their fundraising efforts at Ballpark Village on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
“For the last 6 years, our enthusiastic runners, generous fundraisers and supportive community have made Cupid’s Undie Run the must-do event for the Valentine’s season,” said Todd Garten, St. Louis Race Director. “We appreciate the support of our volunteers, community and partners that help to make this event such a success each year.”
St. Louis joined Cupid’s Undie Run in 2013 with over 250 runners. Last year, St. Louis raised more than $53,000 and saw more than 400 runners take to its streets. This year marks the 7th time the city of St. Louis will participate in the national event. They plan to have around 450 runners and hope to raise close to $40,000. “Who doesn’t want to say they’ve ran around Ballpark Village and Busch Stadium in just their skivvies,” asks Garten.
The idea for Cupid’s Undie Run was born in February 2010 with the desire to help co-founder Chad Leather’s little brother, Drew. Hanrahan, Leathers and Bobby Gill, set off on a mission to raise awareness and donations to CTF after Drew’s NF diagnosis. The friends rallied together to create an event that would support NF research while taking a nontraditional yet fun approach towards fundraising.
To date, St. Louis has helped Cupid’s Undie Run raise nearly $14.5 million that will one day #EndNF. Cupid’s Charity, a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit works closely with the hundreds of volunteers and supporters of Cupid’s Undie Run throughout the country. Participants fundraise to help children and adults from around the world who are fighting the fight against NF. The event is made possible by passionate, charitable cherubs willing to bare it all as well as the charity’s national partners, including Pact underwear, Bombas socks and Sidebar sunglasses.
This year, Cupid’s Undie Run will take place in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Boise, Boston, Buffalo, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Nashville, New York City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, San Francisco, St. Louis, St. Petersburg, Virginia Beach, Washington, D.C., and 17 cities in Australia.
