After a successful inaugural event, the South Grand Cultural Alliance will host the second annual Chalk Walk celebration on Saturday, Oct. 14. This event is free for both participants and sightseers, and $750 in cash prizes will be awarded.

Chalk Walk gives local artists—from professionals to amateurs, adults to children—a chance to win big by creating one-of-a-kind sidewalk masterpieces. Official judges from local arts organizations Craft Alliance Center for Art + Design, Perennial and an art instructor from St. Charles Community College and St. Louis Community College will be making their rounds at 4 p.m., while community voting will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded in five categories: Best of Show (adult), Best K-8 Art, Best High School Art, Best Logo Reproduction and Community Favorite.

In addition to the art, attendees can enjoy family-friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and live, local music and performances from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. South Grand businesses will be open during the event, making it truly an all-day affair.

“We invite anyone to come enjoy the fresh air and fresh art, whether you create your own or vote for your favorite,” said Witt, executive director of the South Grand Cultural Alliance. “Whether you’re eating, shopping or connecting with your neighbors, this is a great chance to explore and enjoy everything South Grand has to offer.”

Artists can sign up by visiting and filling out the application form. All artists will receive a 75-in. by 94-in. spot and must bring their own materials. This event is made possible with support from sponsors like Total Access Urgent Care. For more details, visit
