Saint Louis Effort for AIDS (EFA) invites St. Louisans to “Dine Out, Fight AIDS” on Thursday, April 26, 2018. The annual Dining Out For Life fundraiser will take place at more than 110 area restaurants across St. Louis. Each year restaurants in the St. Louis community come together to donate between 25% to 100% of their proceeds for the day to benefit Saint Louis Effort for AIDS. This year Dining Out For Life is celebrating 25 years of fundraising for Saint Louis Effort for AIDS.
“Hosting dinner with friends was one of the original fundraising efforts used to help people who were dying from AIDS. These early funds were part of EFA’s $6,000 start-up donations. In 1993, the tradition became more formal when EFA held the first Dining Out for Life (DOFL) in St. Louis, and in 2008, joined Dining Out for Life International to leverage our success,” Cheryl Oliver, Executive Director, explained.
Over the past 25 years, Dining Out For Life® has raised over $4 million for Saint Louis Effort for AIDS, with all funds staying local to help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and provide support to people living with HIV/AIDS. Last year, EFA provided direct services to more than 8,700 individuals and educational outreach to 17,200 in the community to increase awareness about protecting against HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections.
“Restaurants range from the ‘who’s who’ of Saint Louis’ culinary scene to the neighborhood sports bar. The widespread support around this event is unparalleled,” explained coordinator James Lesch.
Saint Louis Effort for AIDS (EFA) is the oldest and longest-serving AIDS Service Organization (ASO) in the St. Louis Metropolitan Region. Founded in 1985, EFA’s works tirelessly to provide education on the prevention of HIV/AIDS and comprehensive support services for those affected by the disease.
