It’s time to get funky St. Louis! Schlafly Beer and Dogtown Records presents Funk Fest 13 on Friday, Sept. 28, and Saturday, Sept. 29. The beloved annual showcase of St. Louis based funk, rhythm and blues, jazz and soul bands returns this year with 24 bands performing in three South Broadway Music District venues: Broadway Oyster Bar, BB’s Jazz Blues & Soups, and Beale on Broadway.

Officially titled the South Broadway Rhythm & Blues, Soul, and Funk Festival, and affectionately known as Funk Fest 13, the event has grown into a local annual favorite of fans and musicians coming together to enjoy each other in St. Louis’ most trusted live music district. Sit ins, special appearances, fat horns and extended back beat dance breaks are the norm. Schlafly Beer will be flowing as 24 bands perform 75-minute showcase-style sets each night beginning at 7:30 p.m. and going until 2:30 a.m. One-day wristbands at $12 will allow access to all three music venues during the festival.

Funk Fest 13 will feature performances by regional favorites Marquise Knox, Al Holliday and the East Side Rhythm Band, Sean Canan’s Voodoo Players, and Big Mike Aguirre and the Blu-City All-Stars, iLLPHONICs, and the Jeremiah Johnson Band.

St. Louis native guitar wizard Teddy Presberg returns to present his Seattle-based funk project Pig War. Teddy’s visit also signifies the Return of Fun*k Monster, the fabled electronic funk performance art piece, closing out the first night of the event. In addition, legendary soul jazz local supergroup Hip Grease will make a rare appearance.

Performances include district stalwarts Love Jones, Roland Johnson, Torrey Casey and The Southside Hustle, The Provels, The Grooveliner, Scandaleros, Kingdom Brothers, The Service, and newcomers Mz. Sha and Devil’s Elbow. Bringing the outright FUNK will be Hazard To Ya Booty, Naked Rock Fight feat. Dawn Weber, and a special tribute set: Funkify Your Life: A Tribute to The Meters.

One-day wristbands for Funk Fest 13 provide access to the three venues, and will be available at the door at all three clubs for $12. Tickets may be reserved in advance by calling Broadway Oyster Bar at (314) 621-8811. For the full schedule of bands and more information, visit
