On Thanksgiving Day, Scott Ellinger, owner of the Brass Rail Steakhouse, will not only be donating and delivering 5,000 Thanksgiving dinners to 5,000 families in need within a 60-mile radius of his restaurant, he will also be serving more than 1,000 veterans, police, first responders and those in need inside his restaurant. More than 700 volunteers from all walks of life will assist with this massive labor of love.
“The first year we started, a handful of volunteers and I delivered and served Thanksgiving dinners to 89 people. It’s incredible, just four short years later, we will be serving more than 6,000. I am so incredibly grateful and humbled by our volunteers who give up their Thanksgiving to serve others. We couldn’t give this gift to the community without their help,” said Ellinger.
To prepare the nearly four tons of food he will distribute, Ellinger and his team started cooking Sunday and will work around the clock through Thanksgiving evening. Each family will receive a made-from-scratch meal that includes turkey, ham and all the trimmings, including pie. Deliveries will begin at 8:30 a.m. Those who wish to dine in the restaurant may do so from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
“We love visiting with the families who dine with us on Thanksgiving. We always send them home with an extra meal because nothing beats Thanksgiving leftovers. And not one piece of pie will go wasted. The day after Thanksgiving, we donate our leftovers to local food pantries,” added Ellinger.
Ellinger is still accepting delivery requests — in St. Charles County only — through Wednesday, November 22, at noon. No reservations are required to dine at the Brass Rail Steakhouse on Thanksgiving Day. The Brass Rail is located at 4601 State Highway K, O’Fallon, Missouri. M
